The T3 model has been produced for a relatively long period of time. Therefore changes and improvements have been made during its lifespan. In this blog we will show you the fuse and relay list for both early (before 1985) and late (after 1985) fuseboxes. This will help you with any electrical work you are going to do. Make sure to check the right table depending on the build year of your van.Continue reading Volkswagen T3 fuse and relay list, for early and late T3
As most classic enthousiast will know the 1.6 and 2.0 LBX engines are air cooled. Therefore they do not have a radiator or coolant. This article is aimed at the Volkswagen T2 and T3 owners with water cooled engines. The WBX Petrol engines and the diesel engines are water cooled engines. The best thing to use for cooling the engines is of course engine coolant. Water is in theory possible, but this will cause more problems with corrosion and less lubrication for your water pump. So go for coolant! Depending on the engine you will need about 16 to 18 liters of fluid. The reason that it is so much is that the radiator is in front of the car and the engine in the rear. That means the coolant has to travel for long distances.Continue reading What engine coolant on Volkswagen T2 and T3 engines?
To check the health of your engine you can measure your engines compression. This should be done with a minimum oil temperature of 30 degrees. The following values can help to determine your engines health:Continue reading What engine compression and how to measure it on Volkswagen T2 and T3 engines?
These are the oil requirements for VW T2 and T3 engines and gearboxes. The list is focused on the amounts of oil needed in liters. People have always argued about what type of oil to use, so that is up to you. For engines most people use something between 5W40 and 20W40. For the air cooled engines many people use 20W50. Best advice is always to use what manufacturer says in the manual. What oil you use also depends on your climate. If you are in a hot climate, higher number oils (thicker oils) are usually better. If you are in a cold climate, thicker oils won’t lubricate good enough in the beginning, so you are better off choosing a lower number oil.Continue reading What oil to use and how much in Volkswagen T2 and T3
Your gearbox has two different big 17mm allan bolts (imbus) on it that are used to drain and fill the gearbox. Because of the dirt they can sometimes be a bit hard to find. They can both be pretty stuck, but don’t use too much force. You don’t want to damage the threads. That could get you an expensive repair. The image below shows how the plugs look:Continue reading How to replace gearbox oil on a Volkswagen T2 or T3
